General information

Applicants for all BACR Awards should email their applications and related documentation to: bacr@leeds.ac.uk with BACR Award Application written in the subject line.

The closing dates for applications are: 28 February, 30 June and 31 October.

Applicants can expect to hear the outcome within a month of the closing date.

In situations where the applications are in excess of the funds available, the following criteria will be viewed favourably, although the Awards Committee will exert flexibility of judgement:

Selection criteria (Meeting Bursaries & Student Awards)

  • Applicants should have been a member/member-elect for one year at time of application for an award
  • Evidence that the home institute is providing financial support
  • Merit will be given to scientific content and presentation of submitted abstracts
  • Profile of meeting
  • Applicants who combine the attendance at a meeting, with a visit to a laboratory, a meeting with a collaborator, etc
  • Applicants who have not recently received funding from the BACR

Selection criteria (Travel/Exchange & Mid-career Fellowships)

  • Applicants should have been a member/member-elect for one year at time of application for a Travel/Exchange Fellowship
  • Applicants should have been a member of 5 years standing at time of application for a Mid-career Fellowship
  • Merit will be given to scientific justification for the Fellowship
  • Successful applicants are expected to send a report of their travel/meeting attendance to the Honorary Secretary after their return. A financial statement accompanied by appropriate receipts must be sent to the Honorary Treasurer soon after the visit, together with unspent monies. Should an awardee be unable to take up an offer, the Honorary Treasurer must be reimbursed as soon as possible.
