Student awards

Purpose: To help student members attend scientific meetings relevant to cancer research.

Value: Up to a maximum of £800. Bursaries will cover 2nd class overland fares or APEX airfare (if applicable), registration fees and cost of accommodation. The total sum requested should be stated in the application. However, as it is unlikely that the cost will be met in full, applicants are encouraged to seek additional awards or support from their home institution. Evidence of other funding obtained should also be provided. All receipts must be returned along with a written report that may be published in the Association's newsletter.

Eligibility: Available to students who have been BACR members for at least one year at time of application. Applicants will be expected to submit an abstract and to present their work at the relevant meeting and should submit copies of the abstract with their application. The Association should be appropriately acknowledged on any poster or presentation. Individuals may apply for up to 2 bursaries, one for a national meeting and one international meeting during the period of student membership. Since this is likely to fall in two subsequent years, it should be noted that upon election to full membership (if 2 awards have been allocated) then 2 years would have to elapse before applying for a meeting bursary.

Deadline: 31/10/2010

Checklist: Applicants to provide:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • Details of the meeting including copy of submitted abstract
  • Letter of support from his/her Supervisor, confirming student status
  • A budget for travel/accommodation
  • Evidence of other funding sought/obtained

Procedure: Applicants for all BACR Awards should send their applications and related documentation by Email to the BACR Secretariat: bacr@leeds.ac.uk
