18/03/2010 - 19/03/2010
Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, UK

The mechanisms needed to ensure clinical proteomic discoveries are translated to the clinic are a major challenge, both in defining them and establishing them. The goal of this conference is to discuss the most effective ways in which discoveries such as novel biomarkers can be integrated with current clinical laboratory medicine for the benefit of the patient. Further information can be found at: https://registration.hinxton.wellcome.ac.uk/display_info.asp?id=123

07/04/2010 - 09/04/2010
Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews, Fife Scotland

Website: www.aicrconference2010.co.uk AICR, the Association for International Cancer Research would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2010. We have arranged an international scientific conference entitled “Today’s Research – Tomorrow’s Therapies” to be held in the historic city of St Andrews, Fife, Scotland from 7 to 9 April 2010. The anniversary conference is a major gathering for scientists working to illustrate how development in basic research can feed through to translational studies and the important role of model systems in both areas of cancer research. Over the past 30 years, AICR has supported over 1,650 research projects in 32 countries and has spent in excess of £125m worldwide. AICR is the only cancer charity which funds research anywhere in the world, giving us a truly international perspective on progress in this area. Recognised worldwide as the ‘Home of Golf’, St Andrews is a charming and picturesque royal burgh; it is rich in history and still retains many important historical sites and preserves the mediaeval layout of its town centre. Located on Scotland’s east coast, St Andrews offers miles of unspoilt sandy beaches and is the perfect base from which to explore the wider Kingdom of Fife and the rest of Scotland. The conference will take place in the Fairmont St Andrews, nestled proudly amidst the rugged, coastal landscape of the North Sea, whilst commanding spectacular views of the bay's golden beaches and medieval St Andrews. We hope you will help us celebrate our 30th Anniversary in style and we look forward to seeing you in St Andrews!

12/05/2010
Wed 12 May, Hammersmith Conference Centre, London

The Drug Resistance Workshop 2010 will be held on Wed 12 May 2010 at the Hammersmith Conference Centre, Hammersmith Hospital, London. For more information about the meeting and a registration package please contact ernesto.yague@imperial.ac.uk Chemotherapy is still one of the major therapies used to treat cancer. Unfortunately, resistance to chemotherapeutic treatment remains the main cause of cancer mortality. Notable advances have been done in the last years to understand the basic mechanisms underlying drug resistance and its implications in the clinical practice. However, more work is needed not only to define the basic biology behind, but to design therapeutic strategies applicable in the clinic. The Drug Resistance Workshop is the only UK forum in which both clinicians and scientists can discuss topics related with cancer resistance to chemotherapy and is organized with a periodicity of between 2 to 3 years. The 2005 meeting was highlighted in a Meeting Report in the British Journal of Cancer (2005) 93,973-976.

The Royal Society, London

Breast Cancer Research 2010 Conference

Achievements in breast cancer research is the theme of the Breast Cancer Research 2010 which takes place at the Royal Society in the heart of London on 18 May 2010. It is open to all researchers with an interest in breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Campaign’s key objectives are to build the talent pool in breast cancer research, encourage scientific innovation, engage in scientific and public dialogue and ensure research that translates into patient benefit continues.

The conference programme will reflect these goals; showcasing the wide reaching research funded by the charity and the abundance of talent in the wider breast cancer research field.

Campaign’s Scientific Organising Committee is pleased to announce two excellent keynote speakers who are both experts in their fields.

  • Professor Robert E. Coleman, MD, FRCP, FRCPE, presenting on: ‘Recent advances in treatment of metastatic breast cancer’
  • Professor John Bartlett, BSc, PhD, FRCPath, presenting on: ‘Biomarkers for the diagnosis and prediction of therapeutic response in clinical breast cancer’

The programme will also include an extensive selection of abstract and the deadline for submissions is Friday 20th November. All abstracts from the conference will be published in the online open access journal Breast Cancer Research.

In line with Campaign’s aim of supporting young researchers at the beginning of their career, the charity will once again be awarding its Emerging Investigator Poster Prize to the scientist that most effectively communicates their research.

03/06/2010 - 06/06/2010
Nijmegen, The Netherlands

The European Workshop on Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics of Solid Tumors is one of the most relevant cancer research meetings in Europe. The workshop will take place at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. During previous workshops we have witnessed the emergence of novel insights into the role of chromosomal abnormalities and gene mutations in the development of both hereditary and non-hereditary human solid tumors. Now we are moving into a new era in which comprehensive sequence-based information on vast numbers of tumors can be obtained. Such information will provide us with detailed perspectives on how individual tumors develop. Additionally, this information can be employed for the generation of novel diagnostic and prognostic markers and the design of novel therapeutic strategies.

PROGRAM
The invited speakers: Mike Stratton (UK), René Bernards (Netherlands), Ian Tomlinson (UK), Gilles Thomas (France), Jan Hoeijmakers (Netherlands), Bryan Young (UK), Larissa Savelyeva (Germany), Ileana Zucchi (Italy), Manon van Engeland (Netherlands), Stephan Beck (UK) and Henk Stunnenberg (Netherlands) are all leading, world-renowned scientists. They will present the latest findings on the cancer genome, the cancer methylome, the cancer fragilome and the cancer transcriptome. Click on www.ewcmst.org for more details about the scientific program.

REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
The registration and abstract submission is open. Abstracts will be published in Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics.
