About the role:

They are seeking an experienced Principal Data Architect to join our dynamic Scientific Computing Team. You will design and develop a comprehensive data management strategy for Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute (CRUK MI) that includes end-end data lifecycle management for research data. Data is produced by different internal and external sources and must be stored and process on Scientific Computing resources. You will oversee the implementation of the CRUK MI data warehousing system in cooperation with the head of Scientific Computing and work closely with the supplier. The Scientific Computing team provides a stimulating and motivating work environment. You will be encouraged and supported to keep track in this developing field.

About you:

You will have a PhD in Computer Science or Information Technology (or related discipline) or a relevant postgraduate degree in a related field plus significant relevant experience. You will have substantial experience in database design, development and data management, a familiarity with different programming languages and strong communication skills.

You will relish the prospect of joining a highly interdisciplinary team that combines biology with computer science, mathematics and software engineering, whose goal is to help understanding cancer. Although an understanding of methods and instruments used in cancer research and cell biology would be advantageous, it is not a prerequisite, and accomplished developers with a proven ability to learn new problem domains are encouraged to apply.
