Application deadlines

The three application deadlines for the BACR bursaries and fellowships each year fall on 31st January, 30th June and 30th September.

Applications are considered together after this deadline, and applicants can expect to hear the outcome of their applications within a month of the deadline. Monies awarded are paid retrospectively, following production of a completed expenditure form with hard copy receipts.

Applicants for these BACR Awards should send their applications and related documentation by email to the BACR Secretariat: bacr@glasgow.ac.uk. Applications will be acknowledged upon receipt.

Value

Up to a maximum £500 per applicant, the total sum requested should be stated in the application. All receipts must be returned along with a written report that may be published in the Association's newsletter.

Applicant Eligibility

Open to applicants who have been BACR members for at least one year at the time of application (excludes BSc and Masters students).

Applications may be submitted by individuals or groups.

Collaborative applications involving external partners are welcome, but the lead applicant must be a BACR member.

Multiple projects may not be submitted by the same lead applicant within the same application round.

Project Eligibility

The project must have public engagement within cancer research as its primary aim.

Activities may be delivered in-person or digitally but must be aimed at members of the British public.

Examples of eligible projects:
•    Development of a new activity or expansion of an established engagement event.
•    Community science shows, events or fairs co-created with local organisations.
•    Online resources or digital engagement activities for communities or students.
•    Inspiring workshops or school-based sessions introducing cancer research.

This is not an exhaustive list. Creative ideas are encouraged.

Funding may be used for:

•    Materials and consumables
•    Small equipment items
•    Travel and event logistics

The fund cannot support:

•    Staff or student salaries, insurance, or overhead costs
•    Staff or student subsistence
•    Room hire
•    Catering
•    Training courses
•    Academic research activities
•    Conference attendance
•    Organisation of academic conferences or research-focused seminar series

Application Process

Applications are reviewed after each deadline, and applicants will be informed of the outcome within one month.

Applicants should provide one PDF document containing:

  • The completed application form
  • A letter of support from the applicant’s supervisor (students only).
